Clinical features and comorbidities of patients with necrobiosis lipoidica with or without diabetes
JAMA Dermatology Feb 24, 2019
Hashemi DA, et al. - Authors studied 236 patients with necrobiosis lipoidica (NL) to assess the epidemiologic features, clinical features, and disease correlations of NL in candidates with/without type 1 or 2 diabetes. They recorded that 138 of these patients also had diabetes. They noted 8.00% as the median hemoglobin A1c for those with diabetes. They observed a correlation of NL with diabetes as well as obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and thyroid disease. They found younger age and female sex more often in participants with diabetes. Overall, they suggested risk factors beyond elevated blood glucose play a substantial role in the disease.
