Ziegelmann MJ, et al. - In this study, clinical characteristics and postoperative outcomes were examined after tunica albuginea plication (TAP) in individuals presenting with congenital penile curvature (CPC) who reported new-onset worsened curvature (CPC-WC), and correlate these with individuals reporting stable lifelong curve (“CPC-only”). Experts conducted a retrospective review of demographics, history/exam findings, and postoperative outcomes for individuals with CPC who underwent TAP between 2012 and 2018. Statistical analysis was conducted to distinguish differences in clinical characteristics and postoperative outcomes after TAP. A sum of 60 individuals were recruited [CPC only (n = 39) and CPC-WC (n = 21)]. The study observed that 35% reported a new-onset worsening of their original curvature preoperatively in men undergoing TAP for CPC. Compared with lifelong stable curvature, these individuals were older and more likely to describe penile shortening or exhibit palpable tunical scarring with reduced elasticity on examination. In the majority of individuals, TAP appeared in satisfactory penile straightening.
