Clinical characteristics and risk for arrhythmic events in patients under 12 years of age diagnosed with Brugada syndrome
Heart Rhythm Jun 26, 2021
Righi D, Porco L, Calvieri C, et al. - This single-center case series was conducted to determine the characteristics, outcome as well as risk factors linked with cardiovascular and arrhythmic events among children < 12 years experiencing Brugada syndrome (BrS). This study involved 43 patients < 12 years-of-age at diagnosis. A median follow-up of 3.97 years was conducted. Findings revealed that a spontaneous type 1 Brugada ECG pattern was not related to a higher incidence of syncope, first-degree atrioventricular block, premature beats, non-malignant and malignant arrhythmic events (AEs), in comparison with drug/fever-induced type 1 Brugada ECG pattern. A correlation of syncope events with an elevated incidence of malignant AEs, was identified. A higher occurrence of malignant AEs was observed in relation to SCN5A mutations.
