Clinical characteristics and prognosis of acral lentiginous melanoma: A single-center series of 211 cases in China
International Journal of Dermatology Jun 23, 2021
Wang L, Wu J, Dai Z, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective observational study to summarize and analyze the clinical features, treatment strategy, treatment effect, and prognostic factors of acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) in a Chinese population. Participants in the study were 249 ALM patients (211 with follow-up data) from a single institution. Demographic, laboratory data, treatment strategy, and prognosis have been analyzed. Data reported that the ratio of male and female was 1.3 ∶ 1.0 and the median age was 58 years old. The majority of patients (70.3%) had sole lesions. Trauma history and irritation were linked to lesion size increase in some patients. Patients in stage II–III who underwent standard operation had a significantly better prognosis than those who did not receive surgical treatment. In the study, the prognosis for ALM patients was poor. The prognosis was independently associated with distant metastasis, disease duration, LDH level, and the Ki67 index.
