Clinical characteristics and outcomes of immunosuppressed patients hospitalized with COVID‐19: Experience from London

Journal of Internal Medicine Sep 26, 2020

Vaid N, Ardissino M, Reed TAN, et al. - Researchers investigated if and how the use of immunosuppressant medication is associated with outcomes of patients hospitalized with COVID‐19. Among 981 assessed patients who tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), 354 (36.1%) patients died during the follow‐up period. Observations revealed significantly higher mortality rates in the immunosuppressed cohort (= 31). The current UK government’s early isolation ('shielding') policy for these individuals was thus further supported by the results.
