Clinical characteristics and burden of illness among adolescent and adult patients with severe asthma by asthma control: The IDEAL study
Journal of Asthma Jan 16, 2020
Müllerová H, et al. - Researchers performed a post hoc analysis of the observational IDEAL study, to define severe asthma (SA) characteristics as well as to explore factors related to uncontrolled disease and frequent exacerbations. Participants were patients suffering from SA aged ≥ 12 years taking high-dose inhaled corticosteroids plus additional controller(s) for ≥ 12 months. According to the findings, one-fifth of patients having SA were controlled, depending on symptoms, in IDEAL. Experts also identified the link of uncontrolled, exacerbating SA with particular comorbidities, frequent exacerbations, a lower lung function, and compromised health-related quality of life. The requirement for more effective precision therapies in this population was emphasized.
