Clinical, biochemical, and radiological profile of normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism May 23, 2020
Palermo A, Naciu AM, Tabacco G, et al. - A multicentric cross-sectional study was performed to evaluate the clinical, biochemical, and radiological profile of normocalcemic hyperparathyroidism (NHPT) compared with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and control subjects. Researchers included 47 NHPT, 41 PHPT, and 39 age- and sex-matched control individuals. Via dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, morphometric vertebral fracture (VF) was analyzed. This study's findings demonstrate that the biochemical phenotype of NHPT is intermediate between PHPT and controls. No significant bone mineral density impairment, and no elevated risk of VF were noted in contrast, the bone phenotype resembles controls with normal bone turnover.
