Clinical and ultrasound predictors of placenta accreta in pregnant women with antepartum diagnosis of placenta previa: A multicenter study
Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation Nov 21, 2018
De Vita D, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers investigated the role of ultrasonography in the identification of abnormally invasive placenta (AIP) among pregnant women with antepartum diagnosis of placenta previa. They analyzed 242 women with antepartum diagnosis of placenta previa between May 2015 and April 2016 in 11 centers. Predictors of placenta accreta included the presence of irregularly shaped placental lacunae (vascular spaces) within the placenta, protrusion of the placenta into the bladder, and turbulent blood flow through the lacunae on Doppler ultrasonography. They observed a high incidence of placenta accreta in women with a prior delivery by caesarean section among women with antepartum diagnosis of placenta previa.
