Clinical and radiological factors predicting recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma: A retrospective cohort study
Injury Aug 31, 2019
Shen J, et al. - Researchers retrospectively evaluated 461 patients with chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) who underwent surgical evacuation in their department in order to recognize clinical and radiological factors that are predictive of CSDH recurrence. As per multivariable logistic regression, independent risk factors for CSDH recurrence were midline shift ≥ 10 mm, severe brain atrophy, severe postoperative pneumocephalus, and volume of drainage ≥ 100 ml. Kendall's tau-b test revealed no correlation between brain atrophy and postoperative pneumocephalus. They recommend taking precautions of recurrence in CSDH patients with these characteristics and performing their close follow-up.
