Clinical and laboratory features of group B Streptococcus meningitis in infants and newborns: Study of 848 cases in France, 2001–2014
Clinical Infectious Diseases Mar 09, 2018
Romain AS, et al. - Despite women receiving an intravenous antibiotic prophylaxis during labor, group B Streptococcus (GBS) disease is the leading cause of neonatal bacterial meningitis. In this work, GBS meningitis in children <1 year old was described. Researchers observed a decreased incidence of early-onset GBS meningitis in the era of intravenous antibiotic prophylaxis, but, unexpectedly, there appeared an increased incidence of late-onset disease [LOD]. Data thereby highlight the significance of developing effective GBS vaccines for pregnant women.
