Clear cell renal cell carcinoma metastatic to the gynecologic tract: A clinicopathologic analysis of 17 cases
International Journal of Gynecologic Pathology Oct 14, 2018
Fadare O, et al. - Researchers sought to describe the clinical, morphologic, and immunophenotypic features of clear cell renal cell carcinomas (CCRCC) that have metastasized to the gynecologic tract. Outcomes revealed that gynecologic tract metastases are most often seen as a relapse of a previously resected CCRCC; these relapses may occur many years postnephrectomy. Concurrent metastases to other organs were frequent with gynecologic tract metastases. There is potential overlap between the gross pathology of metastatic CCRCC in the ovary and the primary neoplasia. However, most gynecologic tract metastases maintain the expected morphology and immunophenotype of CCRCC. As such, despite metastatic significant overlap of CCRCC and müllerian clear cell carcinomas in pathologic features, several morphologic and immunophenotypic features are useful in discriminating them.
