Sundaram V, et al. - The proposition explored was that obesity predisposed to acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF) development in patients with decompensated cirrhosis using the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) database from 2005-2016. It was discovered that Class III obesity was a newly detected risk factor for ACLF development in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. As per the results, obese patients exhibited a particularly higher prevalence of renal failure as a component of ACLF. Yielded data illustrated significant implications in terms of stratifying risk and preventing the occurrence of ACLF.
