Citicoline and memory function in healthy older adults: A randomized, double- blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial
The Journal of Nutrition May 15, 2021
Nakazaki E, Mah E, Sanoshy K, et al. - Researchers sought to determine how citicoline (Cognizin) impacts memory in healthy elderly populations with age-associated memory impairment (AAMI) in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. There were 100 healthy men and women aged between 50 and 85 y with AAMI who took part in this analysis. These were randomly assigned to receive placebo (n = 51) or citicoline (n = 49; 500 mg/d) for 12 wk. At baseline and end of the intervention (12 wk), evaluation of memory function was done by employing computerized tests (Cambridge Brain Sciences, Ontario, Canada). This study was completed in its entirety by 99 out of 100 participants. According to findings, improvement in overall memory performance, especially episodic memory, was achieved with dietary supplementation of citicoline for 12 wk in healthy older men and women with AAMI. Overall, citicoline intake regularly may represent a safe as well as a potentially beneficial intervention against memory loss because of aging.
