Cirrhosis and risk of stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Atherosclerosis Jun 27, 2018
Xiong J, et al. - Cirrhosis, it has been reported, may increase the risk of stroke, so researchers explored the link between cirrhosis and the risk of stroke by analyzing data from relevant studies published before December 2017 identified via PubMed, EMBASE, and the ISI Web of Science. Using relative risk (RR) values and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs), they determined the link, and they quantified the association using the random-effects model proposed by DerSimonian and Laird. The analysis included 9 studies, with 3,855,226 participants (26,199 ischemic stroke, 61,281 hemorrhagic stroke, 100,442 total stroke). Findings demonstrated the association of cirrhosis with a higher risk of developing stroke, particularly hemorrhage stroke.
