Circulating plasma fatty acids and risk of pancreatic cancer: Results from the Golestan Cohort Study
Clinical Nutrition Sep 25, 2020
Shishavan NG, Mohamadkhani A, Sepanlou SG, et al. - Researchers undertook this cohort study to assess the risk of pancreatic cancer (PC) in relation to circulating plasma fatty acids. Nearly 50,000 persons took part in this cohort study in 2004–2008, among those, recruitment of fifty incident cases of PC was done and 150 controls matched by age, gender and residence place (urban/rural) were randomly picked. Findings indicated that pancreatic cancer susceptibility may be significantly altered by the levels of different classes of fats except for the plasma circulating whole fats. Experts regarded unsaturated fatty acids, including omega-3-PUFA and mono-unsaturated fatty acid, as protective biomarkers in the prophylaxis of PC. Findings showed a positive correlation of omega-6-fatty acids with the risk of PC.
