Circulating human papillomavirus DNA as a surveillance tool in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Jensen KK, et al. - Authors gauged the circulating human papillomavirus DNA (HPV-DNA) as a biomarker for disease progression in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) that is, especially oropharyngeal cancers (OPSCC) in this review of the literature. Findings suggested that for surveillance of patients with HPV-related HNSCC, that is, oropharyngeal cancers (OPSCC) plasma HPV-DNA was seen to be a promising tool and had a high specificity. Authors noted a likelihood of improvement of the sensitivity by recent technical advances and by increasing follow-up blood samples.
