Circulating cadmium concentration and risk of aortic aneurysms: A nested case-control study within the Malmö Diet and Cancer cohort
Journal of Vascular Surgery Aug 11, 2017
Fagerberg B, et al. – This study was undertaken to examine whether blood cadmium levels, a valid measure of cadmium exposure, were associated with increased risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA), or aortic dissection (AD). In this study, blood cadmium levels corresponding to the upper tertile of the distribution in the age– and sex–matched control group seemed associated with a 2.5–fold increase in the rate ratio for incident AAA. Authors identified lack of this relationship in the small group of never smokers.
