Circular RNA hsa_circ_0005046 and hsa_circ_0001791 may become diagnostic biomarkers for breast cancer early detection
Journal of Oncology Jun 25, 2021
Ameli-Mojarad M, Ameli-Mojarad M, Nourbakhsh M, et al. - Researchers focused on the expression level of hsa_circ_0005046 and hsa_circ_0001791 in breast cancer (BC). They investigated expression profiles of candidate circular RNAs (circRNAs) in 60 BC tissue and paired adjacent normal tissues, using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Findings revealed for the first time that expression levels of hsa_circ_0005046 and hsa_circ_00017916 were high in BC; although no direct correlation was found between the high expression level of both circRNAs with clinic pathological factors, except hsa_circ_0001791 link with estrogen receptors, the likely utility of both circRNAs as a new diagnostic biomarker for BC was suggested by the observed high ROC curve in expressed samples. It was predicted by microRNAs (miRNAs) selection tools that these candidate circRNAs can target miR-215 and mir-383-5p to influence the PI3K/AKT pathway; overall, there is need for further studies to validate the oncogene role of the candidate circRNAs via the PI3k pathway.
