Cigarette smoking significantly alters sperm DNA methylation patterns
Journal of Andrology Oct 04, 2017
Jenkins TG, et al. - An assessment was executed of the repercussion of cigarette smoke exposure on sperm DNA methylation patterns in smokers and never-smokers with the aid of the Infinium Human Methylation 450 beadchip. Consistency was reported between the results of widespread DNA methylation alterations with the broad range of offspring health disparities related to pre-conception paternal smoke exposure. This, in turn, necessitated advanced research to detect the specific mechanism by which sperm DNA methylation perturbation conferred a risk to offspring health and if such variations could be transmitted to offspring and transgenerationally.
