Wamamili B, et al. - Data from a March to May 2018 survey of students from all New Zealand universities were collected and were weighted to account for undersampling and oversampling, on the basis of gender and university size in order to investigate the prevalence and patterns of cigarette smoking among students aged 18–24 years. A total of 1,476 candidates were involved, aged 18–20 years (n = 919) and 21–24 years (n = 557) of which 117 were Māori and 1,359 non-Māori. Current smoking among NZ university students aged 18–24 years seemed to be diminishing, however, daily smoking could be rising. However, many students seemed less addicted to nicotine and were willing to discontinue. Thus, raising the availability of smoke-free services for students who wish to discontinue is suggestive.
