Racine M - This comprehensive review was performed to give an update on research advancements relating to the identification of potential risk factors for suicidality in individuals with chronic pain. The obtained data indicated that surprisingly, pain characteristics and physical status were not associated with suicide risk. Furthermore, the study identified promising new psychosocial factors correlated with suicidality outcomes. A large number of these factors were amenable to change through targeted intervention, underscoring the significance of comprehensively assessing chronic pain patients at risk for suicide, while also incorporating a suicide prevention component into chronic pain management programs.
