Chronic kidney disease increases the risk of hip fracture: A prospective cohort study in Korean adults
Journal of Bone and Mineral Research Mar 12, 2020
Kim SH, et al. - Via following up 352,624 Korean adults, who partook in health examinations during 2008-2009, until 2013, researchers explored the connection between renal function and hip fracture. Using urine reagent strip results, kidney function was evaluated by creatinine-based estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and albuminuria. For this prospective cohort study, hip fracture incidence was examined by hospital discharge records. One thousand one hundred seventy-seven candidates suffered a hip fracture during a mean follow-up of 4.0 years. In Korean adults, both low eGFR and albuminuria were risk factors for incident hip fracture. In addition, these factors have exerted a synergistic effect on hip fracture risk.
