Chronic kidney disease can increase the risk of preoperative deep vein thrombosis in middle-aged and elderly patients with hip fractures
Clinical Interventions in Aging Sep 20, 2018
Wang Z, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers explored if chronic kidney disease (CKD) can increase deep vein thrombosis (DVT) risk in middle-aged and elderly patients with hip fractures, as well as other risk factors by analyzing data from 248 middle-aged and elderly patients with hip fractures who were admitted to the hospital from January 2016 to June 2017. In these patients, CKD can increase the rate of preoperative DVT risk. Independent risk factors for preoperative DVT in these patients were age, prolonged bedridden time, and increased levels of fibrinogen. In order to reduce the incidence of preoperative DVT, preventive measures should be taken for patients with risk factors.
