Chronic exposure to insufficient sleep alters processes of pain habituation and sensitization

Simpson NS, et al. - In view of lack of understanding regarding the mechanistic relationships between chronic pain conditions and insufficient sleep, researchers here tested the hypothesis that chronic insufficient sleep could be 1 pathway through which central pain-modulatory circuits deteriorate, thereby contributing to chronic pain vulnerability over time. Findings here support that exposure to chronic insufficient sleep could increase vulnerability to chronic pain by altering processes of pain habituation and sensitization.
