Journal of the American Heart Association Jun 09, 2021
Chen Q, Wang L, Li C, et al. - In this study, the relationship between underlying cardio‐metabolic disease and mortality with COVID‐19 among hospitalized patients was investigated. Researchers conducted a multicenter, retrospective, and real‐world study between January 22, 2020 and March 25, 2020 in China. They compared data between patients with and without 5 main cardio‐metabolic diseases including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and hyperlipidemia. The study enrolled a total of 1,303 hospitalized patients in the final analysis. Among hospitalized patients with COVID‐19, cardio‐metabolic disease was a common condition, and it was associated with higher risks of in‐hospital mortality.
