Choroidal microvasculature dropout is associated with progressive retinal nerve fiber layer thinning in glaucoma with disc hemorrhage
Ophthalmology Mar 02, 2018
Park HYL, et al. - OCT angiography (OCT-A) was used by the researchers to assess the parapapillary choroidal microvasculature dropout (MvD) in glaucomatous eyes with or without disc hemorrhage (DH). They also evaluated its relationship with changes in retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness. Results demonstrated that MvD was frequent in progressive open-angle glaucoma (OAG) eyes on the choroidal map of OCT-A, that was more frequently noted at the prior DH locations in eyes with DH. Especially in eyes with DH, observing the presence of MvD using OCT-A could provide a biomarker for glaucoma progression.
