Cholecystectomy vs central obesity or insulin resistance in relation to the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: The third US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
BMC Endocrine Disorders Sep 06, 2019
Yue W, et al. - Through conducting a cross-sectional analysis of data from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III), in which ultrasonography was performed, researchers studied the relative contributions and combined connection of cholecystectomy and central obesity/insulin resistance (IR) with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) risk. Investigators found that central obesity, IR, metabolic syndrome (MetS), and cholecystectomy play significant roles in NAFLD. NAFLD's association with cholecystectomy was similar in magnitude to that of central obesity. For IR or MetS, the magnitude of NAFLD risk connection was much higher than for cholecystectomy.
