Chlorhexidine-impregnated dressing for the prophylaxis of central venous catheter-related complications: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Infectious Diseases May 24, 2019
Wei L, et al. - For prophylaxis of central venous catheter-related complications, researchers performed a meta-analysis on 12 randomized controlled trials with 6,028 patients that compared chlorhexidine-impregnated dressing vs other dressing or no dressing. Findings revealed a reduction in the risk of catheter colonization and decreased incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infection in correlation to the use of chlorhexidine-impregnated dressings. The findings support the benefits provided by chlorhexidine-impregnated dressing in preventing central venous catheter-related complications.
