American Journal of Ophthalmology May 17, 2018

Karaoui M, et al. - Experts ascertained the safety and effectiveness of oral chloral hydrate sedation (CHS) for outpatient pediatric ophthalmic procedures. The mean age of the children recruited was 2.2 (SD: 1.3) years and mean weight of 10.9 (SD: 3.3) kg. Authors recorded details on chloral hydrate dose administered, sedation achieved, vitals, and adverse events. Findings suggested that for outpatient pediatric ophthalmic procedures, chloral hydrate administered by a dedicated sedation service as in this prospective assessment could be used safely and effectively.
