Chlamydia trachomatis screening in preterm labor: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Jul 04, 2019
Kanninen TT, et al. - In order to specify the impact of Chlamydia trachomatis infections on preterm labor (PTL), researchers conducted this work evaluating the overall prevalence of these infections in pregnant women with threatened PTL vs those not in threatened PTL. They identified four studies searching electronic databases using combinations of “Chlamydia,” “vaginal cervical infection,” and “preterm labor,” and included a total of 591 women (309 in the threatened PTL, and 282 controls not in threatened PTL). Women with threatened PTL displayed a Chlamydia trachomatis incidence of approximately 9%, that was significantly increased compared to asymptomatic controls (1%). They recommend screening for Chlamydia trachomatis in women with threatened PTL.
