Chlamydia prevalence by age and correlates of infection among pregnant women
Sexually Transmitted Diseases Dec 18, 2020
Simons JL, McKenzie JS, Wright NC, et al. - In view of the rising rates of chlamydia in pregnancy in US women, researchers sought to report on chlamydia prevalence by age group and to determine factors linked with infection in pregnant women to inform screening guidelines. Between November 1, 2012, and December 31, 2017, 17,796 women were delivered at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Of these, 13,657 (77%) were tested for chlamydia. Per findings, 1 of 14 women who were tested were chlamydia positive. Women younger than 30 years had highest rates of chlamydia positivity. Overall findings support undertaking broad screening for chlamydia in pregnancy.
