Childhood socioeconomic disadvantage and risk of fatty liver in adulthood: the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study
Hepatology Jun 14, 2019
Laitinen TT, et al. - As the fatty liver is a preventable cause of liver failure, but early risk factors for adulthood fatty liver are poorly understood, researchers studied the connection of childhood socioeconomic disadvantage with adulthood fatty liver and tested adulthood fatty liver risk factors as potential mediators of this link. For this investigation, they involved 2,042 candidates (aged 3-18 years) at baseline (1980) from the longitudinal Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study. Waist circumference, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, insulin, physical activity, triglycerides, and red meat consumption included adult risk factors connecting childhood socioeconomic disadvantage with fatty liver. The authors concluded that childhood socioeconomic disadvantage was linked to multiple fatty liver risk factors and increased adult fatty liver probability.
