Childhood physical and sexual abuse experiences associated with post traumatic stress disorder among pregnant women
Annals of Epidemiology Oct 18, 2017
Sanchez SE, et al. - The extent to which childhood physical and/or sexual abuse history was correlated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during early pregnancy was evaluated. In addition, the authors aimed to investigate the extent to which the childhood abuse-PTSD association was mediated through or modified by, adult experiences of intimate partner violence (IPV). During early pregnancy, childhood abuse was associated with increased odds of PTSD. Among women with a history of childhood abuse and IPV, the odds of PTSD were particularly elevated. Efforts needed to be made to prevent childhood abuse and mitigate its effects on womenÂs mental health.
