Childhood facial palsy: Etiologic factors and clinical findings, an observational retrospective study
Journal of Child Neurology Aug 17, 2019
Hanci F, Türay S, Bayraktar Z, et al. - In this observational retrospective study, researchers determined the etiologic factors, clinical features, seasonal distributions, family history, response to corticosteroid therapy, recurrence and residual paralysis rates, and issues affecting these in pediatric facial palsy. Study participants included 113 patients aged < 18 years diagnosed with acute peripheral facial palsy. According to results, none of the residual paralysis patients used corticosteroid, but they were used by all patients with recurrence. Findings suggested that age may adversely affect idiopathic facial nerve palsy, while corticosteroid treatment may have a beneficial effect. Young age may have an adversely impact complication development.
