Somerville R, et al. - This prospective cross-generational cohort study intended to prospectively examine the association between grandparental and grandchild waist circumference (WC) at ages 5 and 9 down maternal and paternal lines. At baseline in the Lifeways Cross-Generation Cohort, one thousand, ninety-four children were born to one thousand, eighty-two mothers; five hundred eighty-five were examined at age 5 and two hundred ninety-eight at age 9. The results obtained from the study showed consistent patterns of association between the maternal grandmother (MGM) and grandchild WC, not seen in other grandparental lineages.
