Child attachment behavior as a moderator of the relation between feeding responsiveness and picky eating behavior
Eating Behaviours Dec 16, 2020
Iwinski S, Cole NC, Saltzman JA, et al. - Researchers here used caregiver reports and observations of family mealtimes to determine the correlations between caregiver Feeding Responsiveness (FR) and child picky eating (PE) behaviors. In addition, they examined the effect of children's attachment behavior on this association. Analysis was performed including 110 families participating in a larger longitudinal study of nutrition and child health. Caregiver-child interactions were assessed via conducting home observations when children were 18–24 months (52% females). Per findings, the relationships within the home possibly influence eating behaviors. They indicated an inverse correlation of caregiver-reported FR with observed PE, but only when children were characterized by observers to have more positively toned and smooth interactions with caregivers. Observational data suggested a significantly moderating effect of child attachment on the relationship between FR and PE behaviors.
