Chest width, waist circumference, and thigh circumference are predictors of dementia
International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry May 11, 2018
Liao PJ, et al. - In order to assess the relationship between specific body measures and dementia, researchers collected three-dimensional anthropometric body surface scanning data containing 38 body measures from 6,831 participants in the Health Examination Department of a medical center in Taiwan during 2000 to 2008. They identified 236 dementia cases during a 10-year follow-up. They recognized specific body measures, specifically chest width and right thigh circumference to be protective predictors to dementia occurrence. Waist circumference was a risk factor for dementia. The body measures thus could have implications for future applications and scientific merits in both clinical and preventive medicine.
