Chemotherapy alone vs definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy for cT4b esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: A population-based study
BMC Gastroenterology Apr 13, 2021
Li CC, Chen CY, Chou YH, et al. - Researchers applied a population-based approach to compare survival of definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy vs chemotherapy for cT4b esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESqCC) patients. They used the Taiwan Cancer Registry to find patients diagnosed between 2011 and 2017. To balance the observable potential confounders between groups, propensity score weighting was used. They included 247 patients in whom covariates were well balanced after PS weighing in the primary analysis. Per findings, better overall survival was conferred by use of radiotherapy with chemotherapy vs chemotherapy alone in this population-based nonrandomized analysis of cT4bNanyM0 ESqCC patients from Asia (Taiwan).
