Chemoprophylaxis for venous thromboembolism in operative treatment of fractures of the tibia and distal bones: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma | Sep 14, 2017
Patterson JT, et al. - This study appraised the role of chemoprophylaxis for venous thromboembolism (VTE) and clinically important VTE (CIVTE) after surgical management of fractures of the tibia and distal bones. This meta-analysis of Level I evidence indicated no likely clinical benefit of routine postoperative anticoagulation following operative management of an isolated fracture of the tibia or distal bone in patients without risk factors for VTE, based on the absence of a treatment impact for preventing VTE warranting therapeutic anticoagulation.
