Josep E, et al. - The population requiring intravenous iron was characterized and whether or not gynecologic and obstetric iron loss are frequent indications for treatment were determined. The necessity for intravenous iron was related to anemia refractory to oral treatment or the necessity for rapid iron recovery. Compared to a male population of the same age, women of fertile age are a population at risk of requiring intravenous iron because the blood loss is related to pregnancy, delivery, and puerperium as well as heavy menstrual bleeding.
