Characterization of risk factors and timing of venous thromboembolism in patients with uterine serous carcinoma
Obstetrics and Gynecology Nov 08, 2018
Gressel GM, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study with 413 women diagnosed with uterine serous carcinoma from 1999-2016 to describe the risk factors for and timing of venous thromboembolism in these women. They identified a high risk of developing venous thromboembolism among these women, even many months following their cancer diagnosis. This suggests that in patients with uterine serous carcinoma, venous thromboembolism prophylaxis may be advantageous during other times rather than only in the postoperative period, especially for those with advanced cancer. Cancer stage and the presence of hypertension were highly associated with venous thromboembolism.
