Characterization of female intimate hygiene practices and vulvar health: A randomized double‐blind controlled trial
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Apr 16, 2020
Murina F, et al. - Researchers examined if and how intimate cleansers affects vulvar skin via performing comparison of two specific products for intimate care: Saugella Hydraserum (SIS), based on natural extracts, and a standard product based on lactic acid, such as Lactacyd Feminine Hygiene (LTC). In this double‐blind controlled study, 40 healthy women were enrolled and were asked to use the cleansers twice daily for 30 days. Outcomes revealed high performance of both tested cleansers for safety and tolerability on vulvar skin, but better efficacy was reported in correlation with SIS vs LTC on some parameters. In the SIS group, they observed much less reduction in the hydration level as well as lower pH values, especially on the labia minora. Both groups exhibited increased sebum, but it was higher on the labia majora in the LTC group, while it was higher on the labia minora in the SIS group (+24.7% vs +17.1%). .
