Characterization and outcomes of patients with Hansen disease treated at the Los Angeles County hospital
JAMA Oct 16, 2019
Chow M, Shue L, Sierro T, et al. - Researchers intended to characterize and determine outcomes of individuals with Hansen disease (HD) treated at the Los Angeles County hospital. However endemic elsewhere, HD is a chronic infection caused due to Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis that is seldom observed in the United States. Few domestic reports grant long-term follow-up of individuals with HD, who, at times, acquire important morbidity owing to postponed identification of their illness. The Los Angeles County HD clinic, in operation since 1963, grants an archive that supports the information of the disease courses of a great group of individuals with HD.
