Characteristics of the upper respiratory tract in patients with acromegaly and correlations with obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnea syndrome
Sleep Medicine May 25, 2018
Guo X, et al. - Study authors attempted to investigate the radiological characteristics of the upper respiratory tract and their relationships with obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) in patients with acromegaly. For this analysis, they performed computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in untreated patients with acromegaly placed in straight (SHP) and extended head positions (EHP). In patients with acromegaly who present with OSAHS, airway stenosis and pharyngeal tissue hypertrophy were typical characteristics of changes in the structure of the upper respiratory tract. Results of this study suggested that apnoea/hypopnea index (AHI) was a predictor of the severity of the respiratory tract changes.
