Characteristics of patients who progress from bridging to Long Term Oxygen Therapy

Internal Medicine Journal Jul 02, 2018

Levin K, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, the researchers described the characteristics of patients discharged from an acute hospital admission with continuous Short Term Oxygen Therapy (STOT), as well as subsequently examined for differences between subjects who proceeded to qualify for continuous Long-Term Oxygen Therapy (LTOT) vs those who were able to cease STOT at review. All subjects discharged from Alfred Health between 2011 and 2015 inclusive with bridging domiciliary oxygen were involved in this analysis. They discovered that PaO2 at time of discharge provided a signal with the potential to identify who will require continuous LTOT following an acute hospital admission. During a period of clinical stability, there was a need to re-evaluate patients’ oxygen requirements.
