Characteristics of fall-related traumatic brain injury in older adults
Internal Medicine Journal Jul 01, 2018
Teo DB, et al. - Retrospective medical chart review of 339 subjects aged 65 years and older admitted for traumatic brain injury in 2014 due to a fall was analyzed to determine the characteristics of fall-related traumatic brain injury (FRTBI) in older adults. In this investigation, characteristics analysed incorporate demographics, fall circumstances, prior Emergency Department (ED) visits, polypharmacy, readmission, functional status, and specialist outpatient clinic (SOC) utilisation before and after FRTBI. It was found that FRTBI was correlated with a significant functional decline and increased resource utilisation with almost half of the subjects had prior ED visits or hospitalisation.
