Characteristics of adolescents with differing PCOS phenotypes
Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Sep 04, 2020
Fitzgerald S, Stamoulis C, Gooding HC, et al. - Adolescents with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) phenotypes were analyzed for their clinical, metabolic, hormonal, and ultrasound characteristics. In this retrospective analysis of 176 females (aged 11-25 years), stratification of patients was done by phenotype based on clinical or biochemical diagnosis of hyperandrogenism (HA), irregular menstruation (IM), and presence or absence of polycystic ovarian morphology (PCOM) on pelvic ultrasound (PUS), if obtained. Observations revealed limited differences in clinical, metabolic, and hormonal characteristics between adolescents with different phenotypes of PCOS; these differences are mostly related to the presence or absence of hyperandrogenism. Clinically actionable incidental findings were identified in only two of patients with ultrasounds.
