Characteristics of 252 patients with bronchopulmonary neuroendocrine tumours treated at the Copenhagen NET Centre of Excellence
Lung Cancer May 02, 2019
Grøndahl V, et al. - In this comprehensive study, researchers thoroughly described a cohort of 252 patients with bronchopulmonary neuroendocrine tumours, including typical carcinoid (TC), atypical carcinoid (AC) and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) [small cell lung cancer excluded]. The participants included patients referred to and treated at Rigshospitalet 2008-2016. This is one of the largest studies until date on this topic. Findings revealed female predominance with 68% as far as gender distribution was concerned. In 95% of the patients, they found FDG-PET/CT was positive independent of tumour type. In view of this finding, the recommendation for FDG-PET/CT to be a part of the preoperative work-up for TC, AC and LCNEC was confirmed. The single most potent independent prognostic factor identified was tumour type.
