Characteristics, management, and short-term outcomes of adults ≥ 65 years hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction with prior anemia and heart failure
The American Journal of Cardiology Sep 06, 2019
Tisminetzky M, Gurwitz JH, Miozzo R, et al. - Using multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models, researchers determined how in-hospital complications and outcomes after discharge (7 and 30-day rehospitalizations and mortality) in adults ≥ 65 years (n = 3,863; 49% men) hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction are influenced by anemia and heart failure (HF). They found an increased risk of adverse events among participants in correlation with the presence of anemia and HF, which represent prevalent chronic conditions. A higher risk for developing various clinical complications during hospitalization was observed in patients who presented with HF only, whereas a slightly higher risk of rehospitalization within 7-days of index hospitalization was observed in those with anemia only.
