Characteristics associated with treatment failure 1 year after midurethral sling in women with mixed urinary incontinence
Obstetrics and Gynecology Jul 29, 2021
Sung VW, Richter HE, Moalli P, et al. - This study was carried out to assess characteristics correlated with treatment failure 1 year after mid-urethral sling in women with mixed urinary incontinence. Researchers included 403 women who participated in a randomized trial that compared mid-urethral sling and behavioral and pelvic floor muscle therapy (combined group) compared with mid-urethral sling alone for mixed incontinence with 1-year follow-up data in this planned secondary analysis. They constructed logistic regression models for treatment failure. They further assessed the treatment group interaction effects. In women with mixed urinary incontinence, certain clinical and urodynamic variables are associated with treatment failure after mid-urethral sling. The results demonstrate that women with more severe urgency symptoms at baseline may benefit from perioperative behavioral and pelvic floor muscle therapy combined with a mid-urethral sling. Overall, the need for additional urinary treatment was low and primarily for OAB.
